Q: What is a Mudpie?

A: A Mudpie is a decorative ceramic piece which features the impression of a child’s hand or foot. It starts with the imprint of a child’s hand or foot in soft clay. Each one is carefully hand-finished to become a beautiful keepsake that you will treasure. Mudpies come in a rainbow of colors and combinations to reflect your family’s unique style. They can hang on a wall or be displayed in an easel. Because they are kiln-fired, they last forever!

Q: How can I get one?

A: Come to one of our retail shows in the DC metro area. Check our calendar of events and choose the date when you and your child(ren) can come, then contact us by e-mail or voice mail to make a reservation. We have shows that are open to the public about once or twice a month. Mudpies are not a kit that you do yourself. Let us use our experience in crafting more than 4,000 Mudpies to capture the detail and beauty of your children’s hands in clay.

Q: How long does it take?

A: A typical appointment takes about 15 minutes. Making the actual impression is very quick and only takes a moment or two. Completing a short order form with your color selection and inscription takes 5 – 10 minutes. Your Mudpie will be ready for you to enjoy in about 10 weeks.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Prices range from $35 to $80 per Mudpie. Check the Descriptions and Prices for details. Payment in full is accepted when the order is placed. Mudpies takes cash and checks, but not credit cards.

Q: How do you make the impression?

A: We gently press the child’s hand or foot into a smooth palate of soft clay that feels cool to the touch. No special preparation is needed – we just need access to the hands and feet. Dress babies in something where feet are easily accessible. We are successful in getting even the most reluctant children to cooperate!

Q: Do you do group events?

A: Yes! If you have a group of friends and can get together a minimum order of 10 Mudpies, we will come to you. (Check with us on the location – you must be in the DC metro area.) If you would like to do a fundraiser for a preschool, church or non-profit group, we will donate a percentage of the event proceeds when you have a minimum order of 25 Mudpies.
